No kidding... ouch! Makes me feel better about being so meticulous before flying...
5 miles up? I'm scared to get more than 100' feet off the ground!

I'm with you about the 100' barrier.
Some the "details" in the story seemed a bit "off" (like the 5 miles and satellite control). I thought I'd read that the max operating altitude was 8000' ASL, due to air density.

7 km!!! how did he loose it with so much range? And hope the battery takes it, because even if it could reach that high, you'll probably see it coming down much faster than you would like. The only thing stoping it would be the ground or anything on it.

"The Draganflyer X6 locks on to 16 satellites, but because I was fairly inexperienced I put it into the sky before it had time to lock on to the satellites and it fell out of its flight path and was lost out of sight. There was also a malfunction with the GPS system." Shouldn't need the GPS surely. He should have just flown it with the controls, so why did it head off? Love the comment at the bottom: "If only John Wallbank had one of those state-of-the-art remote control helicopter reconnaissance things to look for his lost state-of-the-art remote control helicopter reconnaissance thing..." And then there were two....

Don't worry, He's got over it and moved on to full size craft. I shot this video using a DF I found wedged in a castle turret recently. It's his first lesson. The ad at the side was not my doing...)

Yeah, all back safe and sound. promise it wasn't a publicity stunt, I pretty much knew exactly where it was, but the church denied it was there initially. Just glad we have been reunited!
