I sent an emIl to Cory more than a week ago about getting the video mount with Panasonic TM700 (come on, the Sd9 is like 4 generations old already!) and in summary the reply was rather sad. They still only package the video mount with Sd9. If draganfly fail to see the importance of video quality which is the final end product we deliver to the client (it's not the flying platform!) then this is a very serious flaw in their philosophy!
Likewise, the LX3 is pretty good camera but the technology have moved on. Nowadays for the same weight you can get small cameras with APS-c sized sensors can can give exponentially better stills and videos. (for example, Sony nex5 etc etc).
The mount should be made more modular! I don't want to be stucked with LX3 or Sd9 when the shelf life of x6 should last me another couple of years. I just need better cameras on the exixting mount!

I also fly a Trex and you can complain all you want about the SD9 but it's using a CCD sensor when all the new cameras are using CMOS. I have tried dealing with the rolling shutter issue in most of the CMOS cameras and it's a pain, and very frustrating. CMOS isn't that much of an issue on the ground but flying I'll take a CCD camera any day. For that single reason maybe it's why people at Dragon are hanging on to it for so long. Do you know of any good small CCD camcordrs?

No I'm not complaining about the sd9. It's a wonderful little gem but the truth is, it is already very much obsolete. And yeah you are right about CCD vs CMOS especially when it comes to rolling shutter. However when you weight in the fact that newer technology like being able to shoot 1080p60 on the TM700 with far superior dynamic range - then you can at least almost compete on equal ground - quality wise with those who are shooting using HDSLR. Plus, rolling shutter issues become really an issue when doing fast panning or when vibration is really bad. For slow flying platform like X6, I do not foresee it will be so much an issue. Folks out there have been using 5D, 7D on Trex platform flying really fast and these are CMOS cameras and rolling shutter issues are but only a small problem which you can overcome with good flying technique. My point here is just that I want the option available to choose rather than being dictated what I can or cannot use.

I don't know what the mount looks like but couldn't you put a similar sized camera in the place of the SD9? I guess what I'm saying is what's stopping you from changing cameras? I'm spoiled because I make most of my own mounts and you're right about the high tech look of that heli. Often on a project more than one person will always look at the Trex and say that's just a toy helicopter. I need more carbon finer bits on it or something. Best of luck with your new camera.
